Does this guy like me? or not?

So i have liked this guy for over 2 years now and when i finally got the courage to tell him i liked him he said "Really? Awww" what is that supposed to mean? We were talking about how we used to be best friends and how now we never talk anymore and all he did was give me a hug! (what does that mean) then when i told him i had a crush on him all he said was "really? Awww" What does this mean does he like me or not? We used to be like best friends!
