I just got an ipod nano today and i need help putting music on it.?

I have a TON of music already on my computer in Windows Media Player... but i don't know how to transfer it to itunes so i can put it on my ipod. i tried "consolidating my library"...it didn't work. I also tried importing the file of all my music...and that didn't work either. Can someone help me with this so I don't have to call the freaking geek squad??
