Can the Animal Crossing memory card be used as a normal memory card?

I have Animal Crossing but I HATE it and I need a memory card for my GameCube. I wanted to know if I can use the memory card that came with Animal Crossing like a normal 59 block card or if there are any drawbacks if this is even possible.
